today is March 9. that means we switched back to daylight savings time. (summer time) I am so glad to finally have more evening light.
i understood many people like the change, and that during the deepest darkest days of winter we don’t want kids going out to school an hour before the sun comes up. of course we just shift it so it’s also dark-ish for them coming home.
to continue that thought, when we’ve gone to permanent summer time, we opted to change back fairly quickly. with that in , in mind I hear people say we have modern power and ammenaties so it shouldn’t matter. ok, quid pro quo, it shouldn’t matter as much the other way either.
pendimg other notes below, let’s bite the middle bullet and just further shorten the standard time period. thus keeping it to the deepest harshest part of the year. we’re already doing that in the fall. we’re only under standard time for about 7 weeks before the winter solstice, yet 11 or so after that’s 4 extra weeks when we’re suffering from the winter blues.
i propose that we move it at least 2 weeks if not 3 or 4 weeks earlier. instead of the 2nd Sunday of March, how about the 4th Sunday of February, or the Sunday following the 15th. that’s essentially the 3rd Sunday unless it’s early I. e. not the day after Valentine’s day. that way you’re not recovering from both at once.
speaking of Valentine’s day, heck, do we want it before or after? make it a romantic night out by extending the day deeper into the night. what better way to reset?
people are forgetting, half the country is already following East Coast time. ever notice when you’re watching tv, the shows start at 9/8central. yea, 6 pm news is at 5 in the Midwest; the late night news is at 10 instead of 11. we don’t work 9 to 5 we work 8 to 5. ok, some lucky people work 8 to 4, and yet others are 7 till.
speaking of the rest of the country, that 9 to 5 East Coast time is 6 to 2 Pacific, but that works great, half can work the early shift while the rest can answer your phones till 11pm. noon till 8 is 3 till 11 east Coast. yet, they can still have an evening to enjoy, cand a morning to sleep in.
